CULT PUB LOMMERZHEIM
When asking about the epitome of Cologne’s traditional pubs, there’s no way around Lommerzheim. The pub in Deutz, with its distinctively weathered facade, is so famous that it’s on the itinerary of tourists from all over the world. Yet despite the many out-of-town visitors, locals outnumber them here – for Cologne residents, “Lommi,” as they affectionately call it, is a must-visit.
Lommerzheim is especially known for its gigantic pork chops, served with braised onions and optionally with “Röggelchen” (small rye bread rolls) or potato salad. The manageable menu also features other hearty Cologne specialties such as warm bologna sausage with potato salad or bratwurst with fries.
Vegetarians might find options somewhat limited, usually consisting of pickles or hearty cheese from the Munster Valley. Portions are generous, ensuring that even when dining for two, you’ll leave satisfied. But at Lommerzheim, it’s not just about the food; it’s about savoring Päffgen Kölsch above all else.
